Your Questions About Harley Motorcycles

Carol asks…
Harley motorcycles with high handlebars – why and are they uncomfortable after a while?
I admittedly know absolutely nothing about motorcycles so I’ve been wondering about something. I see Harley Davidsons on the road with these high handlebars (kind of like a large V). Is there a reason why these are so high or is it purely an aesthetic thing? Also, don’t your arms get tired after a while having to hold them up so high when riding on these bikes? Thanks.

richermo answers:
No, they are very comfortable. I have some back problems, Ape hangers force me to sit straighter. No, your arms don’t get tired. Your not holding, your arms up, just resting them higher. Your shoulders will get sore at first, but that goes away. Apes can be adjusted for how you like to ride. Siting up or lay edng back. As far as the aesthetics, that depends on if your o’l lady thinks they are cool looking. My wife loves them.

Mandy asks…
how exactly would donated Harley Davidson motorcycles help in the Haiti relief effort?
“The 28 Buell and Harley-Davidson motorcycles will first be shipped to the Motor Company’s Dominican Republic dealership organization MagnaMotors before being delivered to the United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti.
The motorcycles will be used by for disaster relief and stabilization efforts in the Caribbean nation. Haiti suffered an earthquake Jan. 12, and several countries and organizations have offered humanitarian aid. The donated motorcycles will later remain as a permanent donation to the government of Haiti.”
Unless they’re sold at auction and the proceeds donated, would this really help?

richermo answers:
Haiti is an underdeveloped country with bad roads, many of which are blocked by earthquake debris. The Harleys will be completely out of their element there outside of the cities, and even there, it looks more like dual-sport country. Looks like a bonanza for corrupt public officials and the Motor Company.
