George asks…

Is this a craigslist scam?

Ok so I know there are a lot of scams on craigslist so I am pretty sure this is one too. I just want other opinions because I dont want to miss out on a good deal if it isn’t a scam. Someone is selling a 2002 nissan pathfinder for only $2800. They say they will ship it to me cuz they work on a cruise ship. They said the transaction will be made through ebay to insure we both get what we want. They gave me the VIN# and everything on the car. Heres the email if you want to read the whole thing.

Hi again,

VIN: JN8DR09Y02W708642

I have to tell you that I’m currently at work. As I already told you, I work as a dealer on a cruise ship and I left the car in California at the shipping company.
I sign a contract with eBay and they will make the transaction for me.The car was listed in another city because I want to sell quickly and the shipping will be free anyway. The web site listed the car in the most important cities because i payed them to sell the car as soon as possible.Time is really an issue and we have to move fast, the low price is for a fast deal.

Here is all the details about this transaction.

PAYMENT
The transaction will be made using eBay Motors a company who will insure our transaction. They have a program called eBay Vehicle Purchase Protection Program. This service allows us to complete this transaction in a manner that is quick and safe for both of us. It acts as a third part between seller and buyer.eBay Motors is responsible to insure that both parties comply to transaction requirements, both parties must submit proof of payment/delivery presented in a legal form (payment/delivery receipt) by the registered payment/delivery service used. The payment will be sent to eBay and they will hold your payment until you receive the car with all the documents.

SHIPPING
You will receive the car by shipping through DAS Auto vehicle Transport Services. It is insured in case of damage and it will be delivered to your DOOR. I will pay all the shipping costs of the car.The car is being shipped from California and you won’t have to pay any additional taxes when it arrives to your address. I will send you the car with all the papers (title, bill of sale.., etc.)The title is clear and clean,no lien,no loan on it.The shipping will take maximum 5 days.

RETURN POLICY
As soon as the car arrive to your address, you will test it and if it does not matches 100% to your expectations, you will return it in maximum 30 days since the arrival date. In this case eBay Company will send you the full amount back in 24 hours and you will send the car back to eBay and you don´t have to pay the return shipping.

If you want to start with this deal ,email me your full name, address and phone number for shipping and I will require those forms right now.As soon as I receive these information from you I will forward them to eBay Company along with the rest of the details in order for them to open a case regarding our deal and send you the invoice for payment and all the details about shipping.

This is a scam and somebody else posted something similar earlier this week. Do not do this.

And why would you buy a car without even seeing it in person, what sort of condition its in and driving it to see how it runs. Whats to stop somebody from selling you something completely dented up with ripped seats that doesnt run or has bad brakes?

People who work on cruise ships normally only work 6 week shifts, then are home for 6 weeks, so if he was legit he’d wait for those 6 weeks when home to sell the car

Steven asks…

Who else loves Ebay?

If you dont Love Ebay why not???

I am finding it addictive…

I have started selling old thigs of which are just nonsense to me and it sells for a couple of nice quid and I enjoy it…

I am also a spender on ebay!!!

I knpw paypal is a rip off though too!!!!

It’s like being charged twice!

I must also say…the rules and regulations of ebay are enforced rather well…

I also know how to stop the ethnics and the riff raff from bidding on my items and set buyer requirements!!

Its rather good fun!!

I cannot understand how someone would be so lazy and wish to trade something in via CEX (computr exchange) or even part exchange a motor vehicle! Why lose money if one needs not to?!
When I put down “ethnics”, I mean Nigerians….as they bid on technology and try and rip you off and commit fraud!
I dont like to blame one nation directly…so I would prefer to put down ethnics..as it applys to those who have experienced such problems with the repugnent indivdules from those ethnicities..(that does include our own english scabs too you know!).

I’ve never visited the site, though I love reading about the mugs in the news who’ve been ripped off and the even bigger numb skulls who get banged up for cheap dodgy scams courtesy of EBay.
