eBay buyer threatens return with me paying shipping?

By admin on March 11, 2011

Auction
Some tool on eBay bought something of mine and claims it has problems not described. I listed the problems I knew it had, but none the less called it an “as is” auction. He says he is demanding reimbursement and then will return the item (thus having my money and my item) and shipping will be covered by the seller (me).
I have never heard of either of those things being true, so I expect I would win a dispute.
Has anyone else experienced anything similar? On either side of the table?

Even if such a thing did exist (which I’m pretty sure it doesn’t), you’re under no obligation to accept the package when it arrives. You could just send it back.

Since you sold this auction “as is” he’s obviously in the wrong here.

Generally speaking if he is requesting a refund, then he should return the product to you first and then you would issue a refund. with that being said the cost of shipping the product to him is non refundable.

i would send him a note stating that you will accept the return on the condition that he sends back the product to you first before any reimbursement of money is given and be sure to state clearly that the orginal shipping cost is non refundable and will not be refunded under any circumstances.

if he cannot accept these terms then file for a dispute and note in the dispute that you tried to resolve the issue first before filing a dispute.

personally it sounds to me like the guy may be trying to pull a fast one.

Well, it really depends if you selected “allow returns” when you made the auction. If so, then you should refund his money and the shipping and if not, then just tell him that returns weren’t accepted.

if you listed me your item “as is” and even listed the defaults it may have had
then you are legally under no obligation to give a refund or to even accept delivery of any set object

If the object does come to you as a COD you can deny payment that will be sent back
if you sent it to any other type of service you can deny delivery at your door and demand that the item be returned

Yahoo keeps copies of your sales as always a good idea to take a screenshot that way when something like this happens you simply send the person who bought the goods at copy of the screenshot as well as sending a copy of the screenshot

Thusly proving that the item was provided “as is” with no warranties and no refunds

My friend you have nothing to fear this person cannot legally touch you
